Meet Jason
Democrat for Virginia House District 76
Progress isn’t promised — it’s fought for.
Jason Melendez learned that lesson from his great-grandparents, Virginians who endured Jim Crow and segregation in Charles City County. It’s a lesson that’s shaped every chapter of his life — and one that drives him today as he fights to protect the progress Virginians have worked generations to secure.
From addressing housing and employment discrimination as a local human rights commissioner to organizing for Democratic victories across the Commonwealth, Jason has dedicated his life to building a more just, compassionate Virginia where every family has the chance to thrive.
A proud Chesterfield County Public Schools graduate and lifelong Democrat, Jason has stepped up for his community at every turn. As a student, he helped launch an award-winning mental health campaign through the Chesterfield County Youth Citizen Board. He later worked in the staffing and recruitment industry, breaking down barriers to employment and connecting working-class Virginians with good-paying jobs.
Jason went on to serve as a senior aide in the Virginia General Assembly, where he helped advance more than 25 bills that lowered health care costs, expanded access to affordable housing, improved child welfare, and strengthened the Commonwealth for the next generation.
Today, Jason serves on the frontlines electing Democrats and taking on Trump as the Virginia Young Democrats’ Deputy Political Director and the Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia’s Membership and Outreach Director. He also works for Virginia Voice, a nonprofit that provides live audio description programming and accessible reading services for Virginians who are blind or have low vision.
Now, Jason is running for Delegate because Chesterfield deserves a leader who understands the challenges families face — and won’t back down from fighting for progress.
